It was a HOT summer for the ABP Ninjas! Since the last report the Ninjas have competed in five CFOA tournaments between July and August.
On May 9th the Ninjas placed third in the CFOA Division 6 3-man tournament held at PBC Rock Hill. 12 teams competed and following this top 4 finish the ABP Ninjas' moved into first in the Division 6 standings.
"We had alot of fun today and learned alot... I feel that we (ABP Ninjas) could have won but the main thing is we are learning" -Jonathan Thames.
June 6th showed everyone else just how much they did learn by taking first for the second time this year! With 10 teams overall competing the Ninjas came out on top. This win increased their overall lead on the rest of the field and has the team looking to finish well in one more event to lock their spot in the championship event.
"It was hot, no doubt about it. We just played solid paintball all day and at the end of the day we just came out on top... Were thankful." -Brandon Standridge
On July 11th the temperature was not the only thing that was blazing as ABP Ninjas took 1st for the third time in their inaugural season and winning back-to-back. 10 teams were in attendance at PBC Rock Hill for the 5th event in the CFOA 3-man Division 6 series. The hot ABP Ninjas only lost one game the entire day!
"This is amazing, I'm really proud of the team and especially Luke who performed when he needed to, he really shot a bunch of people today. We really enjoy playing these teams, they all are great sportsman as well as paintball players. Thanks once again to our homefield and leading sponsor Adventure Beach Paintball." -TJ Eaves
As for the overall standings for CFOA's Division 6, the top three scores from each team will be added together to find the top three teams from each venue to qualify for the Championship event. With three wins the ABP Ninjas have punched their ticket to return to PBC Rock Hill on Labor Day weekend to compete for the crown of 2009 CFOA Division 6 Champions!
After winning their third event of the year in a team meeting it was decided that the team would not compete in the final event leading up to the Championship Event since they had their spot locked.
"In an effort to help prepare us for the finale of our 2009 season, the 2009 PSP World Cup, we will be playing in Division 5 at the CFOA's Carolina Classic 5-man event on July 25th." - TJ Eaves
So that they did, and learn they must. The ABP Ninjas took a tough draw with the 1st, 6th, 7th and 17th ranked teams in Division 5 in their pre-lim bracket. The team suffered from a few rookie mistakes early in their first 5-man event. The team did however have a couple of highlights by beating the 7th ranked team in the season rankings 2-0 and tieing with the 6th ranked team 1-1. At the end of the pre-lims ABP Ninjas were ranked 11th and missed the 8 team cutoff so their day was ended early. But team morale was high following the event.
"We caught a couple of bad breaks and you expect that at your first tournament, we showed alot of promise and played aggressive. We know what to expect next time and we will be back for CFOA Homecoming and we'll be a force to reckon with." -TJ Eaves
Even with the 11th place finish the ABP Ninjas are 29th out of 37 in the season standings.
So whats next?
September 5th and 6th ABP Ninjas will travel back to PBC Rock Hill for the 3-Man Championship Event on the 5th and compete in Division 5 at the CFOA Homecoming event on the 6th. This will be a huge weekend for the team with the highlight being the 3-man Championship event, the best 3-man teams from all surrounding states will be there to compete for the championship. Then with less than 24 hrs rest the ABP Ninjas will be playing in Division 5 5-man for the second event of the year at the CFOA Homecoming. With all the kinks hopefully worked out in their first event the team has high expectations.
Whats down the road??
October 7-11 ABP Ninjas will be traveling to Central Florida to compete in the largest tournament in the nation, the PSP World Cup! The ABP Ninjas will be competing in the new Division 5 UCP Champions division. The team will be competing in the Friday session in hopes to advance to Sunday and be crowned 2009 World Cup Champions!
